4 months down, 6 to go! Holy guacamole :p

Week 16: Your baby is the size of an avocado! 

It's the end of your fourth month, and your baby now weighs 2 1/2 ounces. At this time, your baby is holding her head erect. Because her muscles are developing, she can make some faces now. Your baby is able to squint, frown and open its mouth. There is enough calcium in the bones that they will show up on an x-ray, and baby's fingernails are well formed now. Watch what you say...tiny bones forming in baby's ears mean the little one can now pick up your voice. Eyebrows, lashes, and hair are starting to fill in, and taste buds are forming. She's able to kick her legs, which are measurably longer than the arms that she often swings about as she floats in a sea -- actually, 7 1/2 ounces -- of amniotic fluid. Because your baby is moving well now, you may begin to feel his movements! Some women say that the early movements feel like gas bubbles or a slight flutter. If you have not yet felt the baby move, don't worry. Fetal movements are usually felt between the 16th and 20th week of pregnancy. You may feel your heart beating 'louder'. This is because there is a lot more blood in your body than normal. (about 20-25% more) 

Still not sure if I've felt any movement--there's a lot going on down there, so it's hard to discern baby movement from other movements. I'm going to assume s/he's lazy like us and just doesn't feel the need to waste all that energy kicking yet :p

We had a nice, laid-back birthday--Ian painted me a picture of Pippi, I ODed a little on cake mix, and then we browsed some bookstores. I tend to get a little swoonish when I've been standing too long (especially on the hot, humid Metro), so we came back early and watched some nostalgia-inducing movies :)

I have a picture from today (16 weeks and 2 days), which I'm a little hesitant to post because I look dumpy rather than pregnant, but I guess I've gotta keep it real, especially since it only gets rowdier from here on out! I have to remind myself that being pregnant is beautiful, even when it isn't so pretty :p

My next appointment is this Thursday, so I'll update if there's any news!

15 weeks!

Week 15: Your baby is the size of a navel orange!
Your baby weighs about 1.75 ounces and measures 4.5 inches from crown to rump. Fine, downy hair (called lanugo, which he'll shed before birth, grows on his body. Hair is sprouting on top of his head, too, although whatever color it is may change. His eyebrows have begun to fill in. Your baby hiccups, but he can't yet make a sound because his trachea is still filled with fluid, not air. The intestinal tract continues to develop.


I think I might be feeling movement? It's hard to tell :p
Everything is smooth sailing right now; I'm just trying to enjoy the ride while it lasts :) To the outside world, I'm having a pretty uninteresting pregnancy--no insane preggo antics, emotional rollercoasters, morning sickness, or even weird cravings. Not that I'm complaining (and Ian's definitely not complaining :p), but it does make for boring blogging.

We would like for people to throw some boy names at us, in case we need them. We haven't really come across any we like, although I've looked everywhere! (No guarantees we'll use any of the suggestions, of course ;) )

Oh boy, it's gettin' real

14 weeks and 2 or 3 days

I wouldn't call that an official baby bump, per se--but definitely some baby lumps

13 weeks--Let the second trimester begin!

Well, it looks like we made it through the first trimester unscathed! Thank you, baby, for letting me get away with vomiting a grand total of zero times! Only 187 days to go :)

According to the development tracker:

13 weeks: Baby's now the size of a peach!
Your fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords...savor this, their nonfunctional phase. Baby is approaching normal proportions, with his head now only one third the size of his body. And intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to baby's tummy -- much more convenient.


There's not really much else to report at this point, thankfully. I'm feeling pretty well, and we've both been enjoying showing off our offspring to anyone who will look. Eep, we might just turn into those people who annoy everyone with entire photo albums of their kids at dinner parties :)

My next appointment is September 30, but The Big One is October 26, when I'll be a little over 20 weeks. That's when we'll finally be able to stop calling this baby he-she :)

In other news, we confirmed that Ian gets 28 weeks of paid paternity leave (love you, Canada <3 ), so we're really grateful and excited that we'll get to really bond as a family during baby's first months. So watch out--that means the Snyders will be headed your way for a visit next spring/summer! :p

First glimpse

A little late updating (unless you're on facebook, in which case you've already seen this), but here's the result of our first sonogram/ultrasound!

The doctor didn't pick up a heartbeat with the doppler at our 10week 6day appointment (totally normal! but...) she scheduled an ultrasound for the following week just to make sure everything is on track. After 2 hours in the waiting room, we finally got to see Lilian! Look at that baby, already smiling and relaxing.
Ian got a better view of the screen than I did, and said the baby looks like him, which is plausible. He's a bit of an attention lover (but only in the cutest way possible!), so I wouldn't be too surprised if his genes are as well ;)
Anyway, s/he was measuring 11weeks 3days (which is only about 3 days off what I had calculated), making for a tentative due date of March 14, aka Pi Day. Sorry Mom and Dad, if it's born on 3/14, we might just have to work Pi into the name :p

And we did finally get a strong heart beat, so that's a relief. And because I'm dorky and insist on putting music to my posts, here's We got the Beat to celebrate :)
